We define volunteering as any activity that involves spending time, unpaid, doing something that aims to benefit the environment or someone (individuals or groups) other than, or in addition to, close relatives. Central to this definition is the fact that volunteering must be a choice freely made by each individual.
This definition is taken from the UN Volunteers Report on Volunteerism In the World.
At TEGV, all our activities are carried out with the support of our volunteers. Believing in the right of every child to realize their dream, all of our volunteers, with a keen sense of social responsibility, devote their time, effort, knowledge and experience towards children for a brighter generation.
Our volunteers not only support the children’s education, but also set an example of the active-responsible citizen, thus enhancing social sensitivity.
In addition to performing their social responsibilities, our volunteers take part in projects that are constructive for the society they live in and, by implementing their projects, they also contribute to their own self-development.
At TEGV we place great importance on establishing stable and long term relations with our volunteers.

Adım Adım (Step by Step Initiative) Volunteering Process
The Step by Step Volunteering Process is composed of the following stages:
If you have decided to be a volunteer you can apply via this link or personally apply at our activity centers. After your application, within a month, you will receive an e-mail invitation from our activity center for a meeting to introduce the foundation. If you wish, you can also call the activity center you applied at and ask for the time of the closest Basic Volunteer Training Program you can attend. For contact details of our activity centers please click.
Volunteers under 18 cannot apply online. They need to present a letter of permission from their school or parent stating that they are allowed to do the volunteer work. The applicant must personally present the permission slip to the relevant Activity Center.
- FOUNDATION INTRODUCTION
All volunteer candidates whose applications are accepted are called to a Foundation Introduction Meeting at the Activity Center they applied to.
During this meeting, candidates are informed about the vision and mission of the foundation, working principles, Step by Step Volunteering Process, and Education Programs/Activities.
At the end of the meeting, volunteer candidates are asked to fill in a detailed “Volunteer Candidate Information Form”, and given an Education Volunteer Guide.
- BASIC VOLUNTEER TRAINING PROGRAM
All candidates who participate in the Introduction meeting are invited to a basic volunteer training program that lasts one full day. At the end of the training, candidates willing to continue as a volunteer sign a TEGV Volunteer Contract. Volunteers must present a copy of their ID and criminal record certificate.
- VOLUNTEER PROGRAM TRAINING
The aim of the volunteer program training is to introduce the volunteers to the children in an effective learning environment, so that the children can enjoy the programs more, and the volunteers can be more active.
The training durations depend on the program. During training, different teaching methods are espoused that will enrich the program, and the founding doctrines of those methods and their applications are explained.
Depending on the program, the volunteer program training can last from a single day to five days.
- EDUCATOR TRAINING (FOR EDUCATION VOLUNTEERS)
The purpose of the educator training program is to create the faculty base needed for the basic and program volunteer trainings. The educator training programs are prepared and carried out by specialists in the related program/activity.
- VOLUNTEER WORK
Depending on their personal knowledge, skill, experience and preference, TEGV volunteer candidates are given the opportunity to work as an Activity Volunteer, Educator Volunteer, and/or Support Volunteer.
Activity Volunteers work at programs/activities carried out at TEGV Activity centers all around Turkey, or at Elementary Schools within the cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Education. Our expectation from our volunteers is that they carry out an activity/program for at least one full semester (16-17 weeks), for not less than 2 hours a week, depending on the activity/program.
Educator volunteers are chosen among TEGV volunteers that have been active for two or more years. They carry out volunteer training programs.
Support Volunteers are volunteers that help our foundation in fields besides education.
- Communication Volunteer: Support the communication activities at the activity centers (booth stands, relations with local media etc.)
- Resource Volunteer: Establish connections with individuals and/or institutions that can donate to the foundation and search for in kind aid and/or pecuniary resources.
- Office volunteer: Based on their personal and professional experience, they help out with office, technology and library work at the activity centers.
- Project volunteer: They volunteer within the institutional volunteer programs at the activity centers.
- MOTIVATION ENFORCEMENT
The support and help of our volunteers is crucial for us to perform all of our activities. Motivation boosting applications are conducted throughout the time a volunteer is active.
