International Volunteer Day

Why We Celebrate International Volunteer Day?

In 1985, the United Nations designated 5th December as International Volunteer Day, so that volunteer organizations and individual volunteers could make their contributions visible – at local, national and international levels, and to boost participation in volunteer programs. 123 countries, including Turkey, celebrate 5th December as International Volunteer Day.

In order to support and spread volunteering, the United Nations declared 2001 as the Year of the Volunteers, and as a result studies and works in this field blossomed and gained importance.

International Volunteer Day is accepted as an opportunity to spread the “volunteer” concept to the greater public, and make it a regular part of our daily life. It also helps to advertise volunteer projects locally, nationally and globally.

For this reason, on volunteer day various activities and celebrations are organized, where volunteers share their experience to promote volunteering, so that the concept is introduced worldwide and is promoted. These activities also help to enhance a sense of social responsibility among citizens, and encourage them to work together.

International Volunteer Day In the Eyes of Our Foundation

To date, our foundation has contributed a lot to the development and experiencing of the concepts of “Social Work” and “Social Responsibility”. One of the foundation’s main targets is to work with a team of volunteers, and to present, help adopt, popularize and ensure sustainability of the concept of volunteering. In order to emphasize the importance of this aim, and to underline the responsibility that volunteering bears, and above all to be able to thank our volunteers, the source of our strength, we see International Volunteer Day as an opportunity.

While celebrating International Volunteer Day, we want our volunteers to;

  • Be motivated
  • Feel a sense of belonging
  • Know that we recognize their contribution to our success
  • Be incentivized to continue their support
  • Feel that they are not forgotten, and their efforts are celebrated, on a day dedicated to non-governmental organizations.
