TEGV meets with children in two different periods depending on their developmental stages. One is middle childhood, which is generally between 6 and 12 years of age, and the other is the adolescence period starting from approximately 13 years of age until the end of 8th grade, which is the last grade level of TEGV activities. TEGV Education Programs are prepared and implemented in consideration of the developmental aspects of the target audience of children. In this way, the development of children is supported through 4 different dimensions. Each of these dimensions is interrelated. It is difficult to classify some skills, learning processes and experiences; one skill is often associated with multiple dimensions.
Psychomotor / Physical Development
Physical development dimension refers to all kinds of child’s physical growth and maturation process. TEGV aims to support the physical development of children, which is closely related to their physical health and well-being through its education programs and sports facilities.
Taking into account the great impact of children’s and youngsters’ positive experiences on their social development, TEGV strives to provide a protective, supportive and developing social environment. This area of skills includes the skills of transferring information to others, interpreting information from others, and responding appropriately. Social skills are also important for efficient interpersonal communication.
Positive communication with peers and adults, understanding social cues and empathy, respect for others, self-confidence, self-presentation, communication, conflict resolution, reconciliation, collaboration, cooperation, group work, adaptability, leadership, citizenship skills
Cognitive development covers all processes in regard to individuals’ acquiring, structuring and using this information appropriately. It develops with elements such as experience, social transition, maturation and balancing. This area of skill includes knowledge and skills aimed at developing mental abilities such as thinking, reasoning and so on.
Gaining in-depth knowledge with skills including attention, perception, memory, reasoning, analysis, critical thinking, decision making, goal setting, creative thinking, problem solving, information and communication technologies literacy, planning and organization, strategic thinking, critical thinking and so on.
This kind of development refers to all processes related to the perception and meaning of emotions defined as the impression of certain objects, events or individuals in human’s inner world. Emotional dimension is in close relation with social and cognitive dimensions; skills concerning matters such as communication are included in this dimension.
