After graduating from Şişli Terakki High School and Istanbul University’s Faculty of Economics, English Economics Department, he completed his Masters at the University of Hartford, CT, USA. Starting his career as a tax auditor at Ernst and Young, Benön worked in financial and operational audit positions at Alarko Holding A.Ş., Beko Elektronik A.Ş., Sütaş A.Ş., Sabancı Holding A.Ş., Tursa Turizm ve Yatırım A.Ş. and Tekfen Holding A.Ş., and he assumed operational and administrative roles in internal control system installation, development, and internal audit department set up.
