Born in 1943 in Erzurum, Cengiz Solakoğlu embarked on his career as a Sales Officer in Beko Ticaret in 1967, after graduating from Istanbul Economics and Commercial Sciences Academy in 1964.
Following his period as General Manager from 1977 to 1983 at Beko T.A.S., and Atılım A.Ş. from 1983 to 1991, he was appointed Assistant Group President of Koç Holding Consumption Group in 1991. He then became President in 1994. Along with his current duty, he served as a Member of the Executive Board of Koç Holding from 1996 to 1998. In 2004, he resigned as President of Koç’s Durable Consumption Group, where he had worked for 37 years and 8 months, due to the age limit of 60.
He is one of the founders of the Education Volunteers Foundation of Turkey, and has served continuously as a board member ever since. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of TEGV from 2002 to 2004, and again from 2007 to 2011. Solakoğlu was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of TEGV for 2015-2019, a position he continues to hold.
Cengiz Solakoğlu is married with 2 children and 3 grandchildren.
